Infant Deteriorating Following Transfer from CPAP to HFNC

Patient Description:

  • Term
  • Meconium aspiration syndrome requiring ventilation
  • Slow recovery on CPAP
  • At day 10 transferred from CPAP 5 to high flow 6L
  • Significant increase in work of breathing

Concern: Support on HFNC was insufficient

Measuring the Pressure on High Flow 6L showed the PEEP was <2 cm. Infant improved on 8L. Even 10L would not have been excessive:
